Eight years of relentless campaigning of a type never seen before in this country built this inquiry. Without it we would not be here today.
The politicians and the institutions spent those years branding us racists and smearing us as conspiracy theorists. The truth survived because ordinary people refused to let it die. Never forget this. We forced this. Each and every one of us.
It may not have seemed so at times but securing the inquiry was the easy part. The real danger sits ahead of us. We know, that left to their own devices, those appointed to lead the inquiry will attempt everything possible to make sure no politician, police officer or public official is held to account for what they did.
This is why it is up to us to stop them. We must mobilise in a way where we speak truth to power and force a reckoning. One that sees even the most powerful made to answer for the role they played.
