The Cover-Up Continues

Operation Amazon was tasked with investigating whether senior officers at the rank of Chief Superintendent and above failed in their duty to protect children in Rotherham between 1999 and 2011.

Now under pressure for their role in the cover up that included how little girls were raped by police men in the back of police cars, the IOPC has slipped out a 5 page summary of Operation Amazon. What they have done only makes the situation worse.

On the surface it looks damning. South Yorkshire Police had intelligence on men abusing girls for over a decade and failed to act. But read closer, and the real scandal emerges. Once again, institutions admit failure while protecting those responsible.

Operation Amazon proves South Yorkshire Police had the intelligence. It proves senior leadership failed. But it also proves that our institutions still cannot bring themselves to hold the powerful to account.

I've torn the IOPC's publication to pieces. Line by line and lie by lie. I'll share it with you this evening. I'll also share the five simple steps that will see the cover up in Rotherham collapse.

In the meantime, you might want to ask Policing Minister, Sarah Jones, on her thoughts. I'm sure she will happily explain why the IOPC is still hiding the names of police officers involved in the gang rape of over a thousand children in Rotherham.
