This week, Andy Burnham’s office quietly released what they call a “Timeline of Activity on Child Sexual Exploitation in Greater Manchester.” At first glance, it looks like accountability. In reality, it’s something very different.

For years, Burnham blocked calls for a national inquiry. For years, he defended toothless local reviews that survivors and campaigners condemned as whitewashes. For years, whilst holding the role of Police and Crime Commissioner, he failed to take any action against police officers involved in gang raping little girls.
Yet now, as he eyes national leadership, he wants you to believe he was the man who fought for justice all along.
The timeline rewrites history:
- It starts the story in 2017, erasing decades of betrayal.
- It rebrands sham reviews as milestones.
- It hides the fact that Burnham only admitted their failures after January 2025, when Elon Musk’s intervention made denial impossible.
